CHRISTINA OLIVARES is a writer, scholar & educator.
Christina is the author of FUTURE BOTANIC (Get Fresh Books), NO MAP OF THE EARTH INCLUDES STARS (winner of the 2014 Marsh Hawk Press Book Prize) and INTERRUPT (a Belladonna* Collaborative chaplet). Recent poetry is published by the Academy of American Poets and shown at Lincoln Center: Working Intersections. Recent creative nonfiction is published in BOMB, Lambda Literary, and Jacket2.
Christina earned a Ph.D. from Teachers College at Columbia University. Her research explores the literacy practices of young LGBTQIA++ people of color, and how identity, self-actualization, and freedom in the now can be expressed through writing and imagining. Her doctoral study was supported by grants from Teachers College, Duke University’s Rubenstein Library, and The Point Foundation. She has presented research at AERA and NCTE, and her dissertation was awarded a Doctoral Dissertation Grant.
She has always worked full-time as an educator in K-12 contexts. She identifies as queer & American-Cuban. The abolition of poverty and prisons are important to her, as are creativity, joy, and community. She proudly hails from the Bronx.
