CHRISTINA OLIVARES is the author of FUTURE BOTANIC (Get Fresh Books), NO MAP OF THE EARTH INCLUDES STARS (winner of the 2014 Marsh Hawk Press Book Prize) and INTERRUPT (a Belladonna* Collaborative chaplet). Recent poetry has been published by the Academy of American Poets and shown at Lincoln Center: Working Intersections. Recent creative nonfiction has been published in BOMB and Lambda Literary.
Olivares earned a Ph.D. from Teachers College at Columbia University. Her research explores the literacy practices of young queer, trans, and gay people of color, and how identity, self-actualization, and freedom in the now can be expressed through writing and imagining. Her doctoral study was supported by grants from The Point Foundation, Teachers College, and Duke University’s Rubenstein Library, and her dissertation was awarded a Doctoral Dissertation Grant.
Olivares is a queer American-Cuban from the Bronx. She believes in the abolition of poverty and of the carceral state and in the radical, joyous and unfixed project of imagining our futures together.
